Can you strip dye from your hair?

Before School started, my mom suggested I get highlights. The woman at the hair salon suggested caramel.

I have very, very dark brown hair.

So me and my mom got a highlighting kit that was labeled 'caramel.' My mom, not being the best hairdresser, DYED my hair caramel instead of highlighting it. And she forgot to use 1 of two packets. So therefore my hair came out orange.

And not short after, my dark roots were very, very visible. So I asked my dad to get me some brown hair dye. He did. He got auburn. My real hair color is almost black.

My real roots still show. And I still look ridiculous. How do I get the dye out? And whatever you suggest, explain thoroughly :)

first of all: when you 'highlighted' your hair, you lightened/bleached it, not dyed it.

since you took color out of your hair (rather dying it darker, which adds color in), there's no way to undo that except dye it back.

here's one way to fix your hair:

to get the auburn dye out, buy some 'prell' shampoo. it's almost pure detergent, but it won't hurt your hair. wash your hair a few times to get as much of the dye as possible out.

buy a hair dye that's a shade darker than your natural color, since your hair should now be pretty light, and the dye will fade.

test the color on a chunk of hair to make sure the color is right, and if it is, go ahead and follow the instructions on the box.

condition your hair really really well, since now it'll be pretty fried after all the processing!

the best solution, of course, would be to get it professionally fixed.

nope, you're screwed.

I would go to a salon and have them fix it for you there. They can get you a color that will best match your natural color so you won't have roots.

Yeah you can.

Trying to sort this out by yourself, by buying all these different products probably isn't the best thing to do. You'll only damage you're hair by putting in so much stuff...

I say you go down to a proper hair dressers, show them the colour of your roots, and ask them to fix your hair. It'll cost a bit more money but it may be the only thing that works.

You can get the colour stripped from your hair, but this causes damage to your hair and takes along time to recover from this. I suggest going to your hairdresser and get her to find a colour that will cover your dark hair but is also very similar to your natural hair colour so that you dont notice your roots, and also find the funny side..your hair will soon be the way you want it and you will be laughing about this story with your mum in a few years time!

Okay, the only two things that I can think about right now is to either wait for it to grow out, or go to the salon (but not the lady that suggested caramel).

The one thing with hair dye is that you don't want to mess around with it. If you have made a mistake on your hair already, do not attempt to fix it yourself, unless you know what you're doing.
