i usually have blonde highlights done but i never like the finish after its done cos it looks like i have stripes in my head, i only like it like a month after when my hairs grown n its blended in more. So this year i want to dye my whole head blonde and i plan on doing it when i go to poland on vacation in feburary. As hair grows so quickly my roots are gonna show within weeks and i would want to dye them myself but i wont know what shade to use? does anyone dye their hair in the salon and then redo roots at home?

I am a stlyist for years and in my opinion, maybe you should stick to your blonde highlights. Sounds like your stylist is doing too thick of weaves. Tell her to go heavier on the foils, and thinner on the weaves. This will give you a heavy blonde appearance without the stripes. This will reduce the appearance of roots as well. When clients turn over to single process blonde, I immediately warn them of the maintenance. You will see your dark hair follicles within days... appearing like little black dots on your scalp. Even if you hair is not this dark, the contrast against blonde always looks a lot darker than it truly is. Not only are you damaging your hair, it will be near impossible to match your stylist's professional grade blonde with a box. I fear you will end up with orange roots to be honest! Then, if you want to go back to a deeper color, your hair has been lightened so much that it will not hold the darker more natural color, as in the process of lightening, your hair cuticle has been blasted open, and will not close fully to maintain a darker color again. Unless, you are going blonde 100% professionally, and are ready for a lot of maintanance, don't do it. I hope this helps....

I have done this. But I have found that doing the roots myself was quite difficult. Especially, the back of the head. If you must do it yourself, enlist a friend to help. As for color, when you first get it done at a salon, ask the stylist.

honsetly if you can not commit to going to the salon and having your hair touched up then maybe all blonde isn't for you. You run to much of a risk in making a mistake in touching up your hair that can cost you more money to fix in the long run.

i do it the other way round, I dye my hair blonde to get rid of the roots then I go to the hairdressers to have brown and a lighter blonde slashed through it. I find that when I tried to do the roots myself, i ended up getting the coulour on all of my hair. I found it dificult.

hi there yes unfortunatly you will have root regrowth you can do your own roots but its hard to cover the back of you head yourself try and get a friend to help and always section off in small partings to get better coverage
as far as the shade it really depends on the initial blond if its very light go for the lightest blond shade i use an ash blond it covers well and blends in well with my overall colour you can get thesr blond from basicaslly anywhere and remember to follow the insructions esp for time as your roots lift quicker due to the warmth of your scalp all the best xx

Please promise me you wont do this , I dyed my own roots for about 6 months and my hair started to break and split! Although it does work out expensive to go to a salon every 6 weeks it is always worth it in the long run.

Honestly, seriously I've always wanted to ask this to someone who would know. Why do people dye their hair yellow? Honestly?

Going blond means bleaching the hair and is best left in the hands of the professionals. It is really difficult to just colour the roots even for people like me who are grey haired and dye it dark brown! I'm lucky in that if I get the colour on other parts it doesn't matter, using bleach on already bleached hair damages it and can lead to it breaking easily, becoming very dry, and if done too much you cant dye it darker again! Stick to the highlights or be prepared to pay for the hairdressers would be my advice!
